From Business Icon to L’Oreal

A national leadership competition has secured a 12 month internship with L'Oreal for a high-flying ECU student.

An ECU student’s participation in a national leadership competition is already paying dividends after she secured a 12 month internship with beauty giant L’Oreal thanks to the competition.

Maeva Heim made it to the semi-finals of the Business Icon 2012 competition and while she did not take out the main prize, the chance to engage with industry made the whole experience worthwhile.

The internship arose from Ms Heim making the most of the chance to network with a L’Oreal representative at the competition - a couple of weeks and interviews later she was offered the internship.

Ms Heim’s success highlights the fantastic opportunities available to students taking part in networking and industry events like Business Icon.

The competition is based on reality television shows like The Apprentice with participants completing tasks with eliminations after each round.

The finals, hosted in Melbourne’s Federation Square, were judged by executives from L’Oreal, Datacom, Peter Alexander and Rick Hart.

The competition is an excellent opportunity for those taking part to network with business leaders.
