Background
Sue began her career as a Physical Education teacher and worked in Melbourne, London and Canada. In Vancouver, she joined the YWCA, conducting fitness and mother and child activities. On return to Australia, Sue came to Perth and joined the YMCA, introducing women's programs in city and suburban branches.
In 1974, she was amongst the first Recreation Officers seconded to local government by the Community Recreation Council (now Department of Sport and Recreation). Subsequently, Sue spent 12 years managing local government recreation services. In 1987, she took a lecturing position with ECU, coordinated the Leisure and Sport Management program for approximately 14 years, from 1991 to 2006, retiring from her formal position in January 2007. Sue has continued as an Honorary Senior Fellow of the School, and continues to provide research supervision for Post Graduate students.
From 2009 to 2011, Sue was employed as the Executive Officer of the Motor Neurone Disease Association of WA, and contributed to MND social research in conjunction with the WA Centre for Cancer and Palliative Care, Curtin University.
