Background

Gregory is a dedicated and innovative lecturer within the School of Medical and Health Sciences at Edith Cowan University, with two decades of industry experience in work health and safety (WHS) and over a decade in academia.

Gregory hold degrees in Occupational Therapy, Work Health and Safety, Research Practice and Academic Practice.  He is a Registered Occupational Therapist with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA), a Fellow in two higher education institutions (HERDSA, Advance HE) and Full Member of professional associations in the disciplines of WHS and ergonomics.

He has taught both undergraduate and postgraduate students in the areas of WHS law, workers compensation, ergonomics and population health, with a strong track record of consistently high student satisfaction across all units. His students have encompassed the vast spectrum of our community; from school-leavers to mature-aged students, and industry professionals to those who are currently imprisoned.

Since commencing with ECU in 2012, he has established himself as a passionate lecturer whose innovative teaching methods have been recognised by both academia and industry.  He has been the recipient of several awards for innovation including the 2021 ARPA Innovation in Return-to-Work Award, the 2017 ECU Staff Excellence Award for Innovative Solutions, and the 2015 ECUlture Annual Conference Award for innovations in teaching.  He was a finalist in the 2021 IFAP CGU SafeWay Awards and 2023 WHS Foundation Awards.

He is at the forefront of emerging technologies and strongly supports the use of technology-enhanced learning (TEL).  He was an earlier adopter of inter-campus spanning at ECU, including being involved in a showcase video for the Centre for Learning and Teaching (CLT).

He is proud to be a champion for diversity and equality at ECU and received the Diversity and Inclusion Champions Award by the Women in Safety and Health (WISH) Network of the Australian Institute of Health and Safety.  During the COVID-19 pandemic, he produced a video highlighting the diversity and inclusion at ECU, in collaboration with ECU Elder-in-Residence, Nan Roma Winmar, and the video became popular on social media.

In addition to his work at ECU, he works a part-time as a WHS Officer for a business in the area of disability support services under the NDIS.  This work has allowed him to remain in practice in industry as well as using his talent and knowledge to assist the community.
