This year's annual AMSA conference was held at the Esplanade in Fremantle, 3-7 July 2011. The conference was kicked off by a great welcome function and a busy week of presentations and poster sessions followed. The Centre for Marine Ecosystems Research (CMER) was well represented with Paul, Glenn, Kathryn, Britta, Richard, Gary, Rozaimi and Candace each giving an oral presentation and/or presenting a poster in one of this years Crossing Boundaries themed sessions (abstract links below). Pierre, Aldo, Fede and Andrew also attended, making the most of the opportunity to network with marine researchers from around the country in their own backyard. Kathryn headed up the chair of the scientific committee, producing a program with plenary and keynotes from Peter Mumby, Ian Cresswell, Paul Snelgrove, Steve Blake, Melanie Bishop, Anya Waite, Richard Brinkman and special guests Tonny Wagey and Lourenco Fontes who were here to discuss developments in marine science in the Arafura and Timor Seas. Candace lent a hand on the organising committee, co-hosting the student night at the Newport Hotel and aiding in judging this years Sherwood Award, which was awarded to Hugh Kirkman. The turn out this year was huge, with approximately 500 delegates registering to attend.
