Candace wins Ron Kenny Award at AMSA
Tuesday, 16 August 2011
Congratulations to Candace, who was awarded the Ron Kenny Poster Prize at the 48th Annual AMSA conference in Fremantle, 3-7 July 2011. The Ron Kenny poster prize rewards excellence in scientific work by students in any field of marine science, and encourages a high standard of scientific communication in a poster. The prize is the Association's major form of recognition and encouragement of student effort. Candace’s poster on the effects of litter mixture and macroinvertebrate presence on seagrass wrack degradation drew much attention due to its interesting results: seagrass degradation rates were significantly increased under reduced fauna abundance and significantly reduced when mixed with highly labile algae, which is contrary to expectation. Fellow students, Gary and Rozaimi also presented work from their Masters/PhD, which received lots of interest and feedback.
