Divers at Lake MacLeod

Divers at Lake MacLeod

An enthusiastic MSc student is needed to conduct a 2 year study to determine the existence of patterns within the assemblages in vents of the Northern Ponds at Lake Macleod. Data will also be collected on biophysical variables, and size structure of selected fish species, in an attempt to explain the determinants of fish assemblages. A key focus of the study will be to determine the influence of salinity gradients in and between vents, and whether invasive species (like tilapia) are present in the vents, and if so, what are their potential effects on other fish species.

A student bursary of $10,000 per year (for 2 years) will be provided. Travel, analytical and equipment expenses will also be covered. The project is supported by Dampier Salt Ltd (RioTinto) and will be one of several ECU postgraduate projects on Lake MacLeod.
