International Clinical Placements

The School of Nursing and Midwifery offers international clinical placements each year to a group of nursing and midwifery students.

In 2022, Nursing students were offered placements in Cambodia. In 2023, placements will be available in Nepal, Cambodia, Bhutan, The Philippines, Tonga, India and Vietnam for students. Typically, students enrolled in stage four and five are eligible to apply.

The purpose of international clinical placements is to enable students to expand their knowledge and understanding of cultural awareness within the health care arena. This opportunity also supports their practice when they return to Australia and take up a position as a Registered Nurse or Midwife in Australia or internationally. Please view the image galleries below for examples of some international clinical placements:

Activities

Within this program, students are encouraged to explore and understand the health care system of their host countries. Working in collaboration with the local health district and public hospital, students divide their time between shadowing and supporting local nursing and midwifery staff in a range of clinical settings, including hospital wards and providing primary health care to outlying communities as part of the hospital’s outreach program.
