Resilience in small business owners

Resilience in small business owners

Monday, 31 January 2011

As part of investigating resilience across the lifespan members of the Lifespan Resilience Research Group conducted a study of resilience in small business owners in the South West of Western Australia. This research was conducted with the assistance of the Small Business-Centre Bunbury Wellington who forwarded the survey to their email database and delivered flyers promoting the research across the Bunbury area. The results of this research are still being analysed but the initial assessment is that small business owners in the Bunbury area are personally quite resilient and consider their businesses to be resilient.

It is intended that a report from the research be provided to the Small Business Centre Bunbury Wellington and that the results be published in a peer reviewed journal.

Two psychology honours student thesis have developed from this research. One has completed a qualitative study interviewing small business owners and another is currently collecting data for a replication of the Bunbury study in the northern suburbs of Perth.
