Researchers receive $30,000 grant from Save the Children

Thursday, 22 April 2010

The Social Justice Research Centre's research team consisting of Dr Anna Targowska, Dr Andrew Guilfoyle and Ms Susan Teather has been successful in receiving a $30,000 grant from Save the Children to provide research and evaluation advice and services for the It Takes a Village: Multicultural Early Learning Program (ITaV) currently operating under the auspices of this organisation in the south-east corridor of the metropolitan area of Perth. It is anticipated that the formal evaluation will provide solid evidence to assess the role of this project in building social capital of children and families from Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CaLD) backgrounds in Western Australia and to establish whether this model should be more widely incorporated into the suite of settlement services currently available to newly-arrived migrant and humanitarian entrant families in Australia. The evidence that will emerge from a formal evaluation process has the potential to impact considerably at both the policy and practice level and therefore improve settlement policy and resourcing.
