Blue Carbon & Paleo Reconstruction

Overview

Blue carbon, the capture and storage of carbon in coastal marine ecosystems is the primary focus of this research theme which aims to improve our understanding of carbon sequestration and the other related services that coastal marine ecosystems provide. Through the application of paleo-reconstructions researchers can provide valuable insights into impacts and the responses of individual ecosystems to global change in a historical context. By constructing these historical baselines we can form more in-depth understanding to responses of coastal communities to environmental change and subsequently use this to predict future outcomes and offer improved management of both natural and anthropogenic disturbances.
