A framework for secure medical information exchange

This research will improve medical information security and the protection of patient information. Security capability and governance are key elements of this ground breaking research. The significance of this research is in providing guidance by security experts, presented in a perspective relevant to the medical environment. It addresses the social, behavioural and technical aspects of effective security in an environment which relies heavily on trust and encourages medical practices to adopt self-governance to protect electronic patient information.

Reassurance of the community by the custodians of their personal information is essential in making E-health a reality for Australia. Further, timely access to accurate patient information will reduce medical errors and thus result in socio-economic benefit by reducing costs.
