The NOT operator finds items which include the first term, but not the second term.

Use not with caution because you may inadvertently exclude useful material.

For example: (beverages not alcoholic) excludes any record containing the second term.

Image of two circles, labelled "B" and "A". "B" is dark and slightly overlaps the pale "A" in the background. This represents search results that include the term beverages, excluding records containing the term alcoholic.
