4.4.1 Styles

Rules for citing and referencing sources of information vary between disciplines.

Some commonly used styles include:

• Publication manual of the American Psychological Association(6th ed.) APA style
• ECU's Referencing guide which is based on the APA style
• Australian guide to legal citation (3rd. ed.). (law students only)

Generally, all ECU students will be using the ECU referencing guide, which is based on the APA style.

Whichever style is chosen, it is essential to use it consistently throughout your assignment.

In order to conform to the style you have selected, you should refer to a style manual.

Some commonly used style manuals are:
