Commonwealth Education Costs Scholarships (CECS)

CECS are intended to assist students from low socio economic backgrounds with the costs associated with tertiary study. Applications are invited from students in financial hardship, Indigenous Australians, students from rural or regional areas, students with a disability and those with significant caring responsibilities. In 2008 CECS will be valued at $1081.00 per semester (indexed annually). Successful applicants are required to continue to meet eligibility requirements for the scholarship each semester in order to receive payment.

To be eligible to apply for a CECS you must:

  • Be an Australian Citizen or holder of a Permanent Humanitarian Visa; AND
  • Be undertaking an Associate Degree, Bachelor Degree or Honours in any study area OR a Graduate Diploma in Education; AND
  • Be experiencing financial hardship.

Commonwealth Accommodation Scholarships (CAS)

CAS are intended to assist students from rural or regional areas with relocation and ongoing accommodation costs. Applications are invited from students who have relocated from a rural or regional area in order to undertake study at an ECU campus. In 2008 CAS will be valued at $2062.00 per semester (indexed annually). Successful applicants are required to continue to meet eligibility requirements for the scholarship each semester in order to receive payment.

To be eligible to apply for CAS you must:

  • Be an Australian Citizen or holder of a Permanent Humanitarian Visa; AND
  • Be undertaking an Associate degree, Bachelor degree or Honours in any study area OR a Graduate Diploma in Education; AND
  • Be experiencing financial hardship; AND
  • Have or will relocate from a rural or regional area where you have lived for a significant amount of time.

Newly commencing Indigenous students who are awarded a CAS will also be assessed for eligibility for a one-off Indigenous Access Payment of $4080 intended to assist with the costs associated with relocating from their rural/regional home.

Indigenous Enabling Scholarships

Indigenous Enabling Scholarships include both CECS and CAS and are intended to assist Indigenous students who are undertaking a tertiary enabling course such as the Indigenous University Orientation Course or University Preparation Course. Applications are invited from Indigenous Australians experiencing financial hardship and may also be from a rural or regional area, have a disability and/or have significant caring responsibilities. Successful applicants are required to continue to meet eligibility requirements for the scholarship each semester in order to receive payment.

Newly commencing students who are awarded an Indigenous Enabling CAS will also be assessed for eligibility for a one-off Indigenous Access Payment of $4080 intended to assist with the costs associated with relocating from their rural/regional home.

To be eligible to apply for an Indigenous Enabling CECS you must:

  • Be an Indigenous Australian; AND
  • Be undertaking a Tertiary Enabling Course (ie. Indigenous University Orientation Course or University Preparation Course); AND
  • Be experiencing financial hardship

  • Have or will relocate from a rural or regional area where you have lived for a significant amount of time.

How to apply

Applications for all equity scholarships including CECS, CAS, Indigenous Access CECS, Indigenous Access CAS, are by completion of a single online application form.

Once your eligibility is identified further assessment of your application will take place. Successful applicants will be notified in August 2008.
