ECU's summer session commences Thursday 8 January 2009 with examinations (for examinable units) in late January and mid February, 2009.

    • Monday 26 January, 2009 is a Public Holiday

  • Summer School units will be recorded under the student's course and results will appear on a student’s official academic transcript

  • Exam details will be available on SIMO
  • Applications for deferred exams (with originals of supporting documentation included), must be submitted within three days of the exam. Final date for submission is Wednesday 18 February 2009. Deferred exams period for summer school will be 23 - 25 February 2009

Enrolment

Summer Session enrolments OPEN on SIMO as follows:

  1. One block week: Monday 20 October to Sunday 26 October, then
  2. Faculty staggered opening schedule applies in conjunction with Semester 1, 2009 enrolments check here for Faculty schedule.

Enrolments CLOSE
The FINAL CUT OFF DATE for entry to the 2009 Summer Session is Monday 22 December, 2008.

MODIFYING UNITS
Students wishing to modify after Monday 22 December, 2008 must see their relevant Summer Session Coordinator for approval.

Note: Students who fail a Semester 2 unit, which is also being offered in the Summer Session, have until Monday 22 December, 2008 to enrol.

CHECKING PRE-REQUISITE UNITS
Students who elect to undertake summer session units MUST check pre-requisites/co-requisites prior to enrolling.

CONFIRMATION OF ENROLMENT
When you enrol you must print your timetable as confirmation of your enrolment. Please retain this copy as you may be required to provide proof of enrolment at your first lecture.

EXCLUDED STATUS
Students who have been excluded by the Board of Examiners at the end of Semester 2, 2008, are not eligible to enrol in Summer Session units.

Fees and Payment

PAYMENT

You will be able to view your Statement of Account online through SIMO for the amount of your Summer Session tuition fee. Summer Session fees must be paid by Thursday 15 January, 2009 or your enrolment will be placed on financial encumbrance.

  • Partial payments are not offered for the Summer Session.

Payments can be made at any Australia Post Office or Agency, using Australia Post Billpay or at an ECU Cashier.

FEES

HECS-HELP
If you are enrolled as a Commonwealth supported student in HECS-HELP liable units your current HECS-HELP option (i.e. up front, through taxation) applies. If you want to change your option you must complete and submit a new Request for Commonwealth Support and HECS-HELP form to Student Central as soon as possible, but no later than Monday 22 December, 2008.

FEE-HELP
Students enrolled in postgraduate award courses are able to access FEE-HELP to pay fees for any postgraduate unit in summer session. To be eligible you must be an Australian citizen or eligible permanent resident. Request for FEE-HELP Assistance forms are available from Student Central or the Fees Office and must be returned to either office no later than Monday 22 December, 2008.

PARTICIPANTS WHO ARE ENROLLED AT OTHER INSTITUTIONS
(Cross Institutional Enrolment)

Non-ECU students will need to submit the cross-institutional form from their home university together with a copy of their academic record and proof of their HECS-HELP status (e.g. a copy of their last Commonwealth Assistance Notice) if selecting HECS-HELP liable units. All documentation must be submitted to Student Central no later than Monday 22 December, 2008. Students will also need to contact their home institution for course credit advice.

Withdrawal

If you wish to withdraw from a unit after Monday 22 December, 2008, you will need to complete the Enrolment Variation and Over Quota Form and submit to Student Central or your Faculty Summer Session Coordinator by Thursday 15 January, 2009.

Withdrawal Without Financial Penalty
You must withdraw by Thursday 15 January, 2009 to avoid incurring financial liability for your tuition fee.

Withdrawal Without Academic Penalty
You must withdraw by Thursday 22 January, 2009 to avoid a Failed mark ("N/0") and incurring financial liability for your tuition fee.

REFUNDS
Refunds will only be considered in extenuating circumstances - please contact the Fees Office.

Services

PARKING PERMIT
All students bringing a vehicle on to University grounds must have a current parking permit or valid ticket. Check to obtain a list of areas available for parking on campus. (A 2008 permit is valid until 31 December, 2008 and the 2009 permit is valid from 1 January, 2009). Application forms are available from any Student Central counter or pay online (the 2009 permits may not yet be available).

Visitor pay and display bays are available at $1.00 per hour. Daily and weekly parking scratchies are also available from the Cashier and Bookshop, $2.50 and $5.00 respectively.

STUDENT ID CARD
ECU students - For those students who do not have a current ECU ID card, a payment of $10.00 is applicable (to the Cashier) and the receipt for fees paid are to be taken to Media Services to obtain the ID card.

New students - will need to take their confirmation of enrolment particulars to Media Services to be issued with an ID card.

LIBRARY
A current student ID card must be presented to Library staff for validation prior to borrowing materials. Reciprocal borrowing with Curtin, Murdoch and UWA universities applies as long as a current Library ID is presented.

Graduation

Students who complete their final units in Summer School 2009 will NOT be able to attend the March 2009 Graduation Ceremony. You may either attend the September ceremony, or organise to pick up your parchment earlier via Student Records.
