Should I disclose my disability?

Your decision to disclose or not disclose your disability is a personal decision. If you require accommodations or alternative arrangements, disclosure allows disability specific support and resources to be put in place. Can I get help to get around the campus?

Orientation around the campus for students with vision impairment, for example can be coordinated through the low visions centre by the Equity and Diversity Officer.  Maps are available indicating wheelchair access and highlighting the location of disable parking bays.

Can my needs be met?

A range of resources and accommodations are available depending upon your needs and circumstances.

Please make an appointment to see the Student Equity and Diversity Officer to look at your requirements.

Special examination arrangements can be negotiated by completing the Exam request form. If you have had accommodations previously please let us know what those are and if your circumstances have changed.  Once you have registered we will write to you at the beginning of each semester to find out if you still require your current conditions or if they have changed.

What resources are available?

Depending on the recommendations of your practitioner we able to provide a range of specialised equipment.  There is an Equity room on each campus that provides access to adjustable chair and desk, specialised software, computer and scanner close circuit TV, pocket viewers and other adaptive technology. Exam conditions can be adapted to accommodate your needs in terms of extra time, alternative lighting, notetakers, coloured paper or tape recorders.

Are there other student support services I can link into?

Other support services available are the Counselling Service, Multifaith Chaplaincy, Student Health Service, Careers Advisory Service among others.
