Prospective students are encouraged to advise us of their disability prior to enrolment, so that the university can plan to meet their needs and make the transition to University as easy as possible.
Students who are already registered with the Student Services Centre (Student Equity Officer) will retain their existing arrangements until such time as their needs are updated and new arrangements need to be put in place.
What is the registration process?
- Please contact the Student Equity Officer. to make an appointment for assessment of your request
- You will be asked to complete the confidential Advice of Disability or Medical Condition form.
- You will also need to attach a Health Practitioners Report form that you have had completed by your treating practitioner. This form is also available from Student Central.
- On receipt of all required documentation, as part of your assessment appointment you will be provided with your Learning Access Plan which is a document prepared by the Student Equity Officer, tailored to meet your individual needs.
What is a Learning Access Plan and what does it cover?
A Learning Access Plan is an individual agreement between ECU and you the student that outlines the type and level of support ECU will provide in relation to your particular registration.
Your Learning Access Plan will also assist you in negotiating with academic staff, the levels of specialist support that you may require in the academic delivery side of your course.
What is a Learning Access Plan used for:
- Document information about the impact of your disabilities or medical condition on your studies
- Document the services you are being provided with
- Document any alternative exam arrangements which have been agreed.
- Assist you in negotiating with University staff the disability related
- Notification of alternative venues and times for exams will be posted via your ECU student email address prior to exam week
Your Learning Access Plan is based on:
- Information you provide
- Documentation you provide from an appropriately qualified practitioner
- Information provided by relevant external Community services
- Information provided by relevant University staff.
Who can access your Learning Access Plan?
- As the Learning Access Plan is a tool for you to use in negotiating arrangements with academic staff in your courses you have control over who sees it.
- You are provided with a hard copy so that you can use it to inform staff about your requirements.
- A copy can be sent to the Student Support Officer in your school to assist with provision of appropriate conditions
Do I have to disclose my disability?
Your disability or medical information remains your private information. Only information you choose to release within the University goes into your Access Plan.
No information about your disability or Medical Condition is passed outside the University without your explicit consent.

What happens if my situation changes
At any time you can arrange to alter your Learning Access Plan if the impact of your disability or medical condition changes. Just contact the Student Equity Officer for a re assessment.
Unless you advise of the need to make changes, your Learning Access Plan will stay in place for the duration of your studies.

Students are able to register their disability on the enrolment form; access to this information is VERY RESTRICTED.
