ECU Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Strategic Partnerships) Professor Cobie Rudd, presenting at the annual BreastScreen WA Pink Ribbon Breakfast
On 26 October 2020, ECU Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Strategic Partnerships) Professor Cobie Rudd, was invited to be a keynote speaker at the annual BreastScreen WA Pink Ribbon Breakfast 2020. Professor Rudd was invited to deliver a guest presentation as an inspirational speaker to attendees from metropolitan health services, non-health backgrounds, breast cancer survivors, consumer advocates and the general public.
The BreastScreen WA Program is the State component of the national breast cancer screening program, BreastScreen Australia. The Pink Ribbon Breakfast, which BreastScreen WA has successfully held annually for many years, celebrates inspirational women in the community and breast cancer awareness. October is Australia’s Breast Cancer Awareness Month and this event raises awareness around the importance of breast screening and breast cancer among women over the age of 40. Notable previous keynote speakers at the BreastScreen WA Pink Ribbon Breakfast have been ECU’s Chancellor, the Honourable Kerry Sanderson AC and Professor Lyn Beazley AO, the first female Chief Scientist for Western Australia.
Over 100 participants gathered at Frasers Function Centre, Kings Park where Professor Rudd presented an inspirational speech on her personal and professional journey towards gender equality at ECU.
The other keynote speaker was Professor Arlene Chan, Breast Cancer Oncologist, Hollywood Private Hospital. Professor Chan is one of Australia’s most respected Breast Cancer Oncologists. Arlene is a founding member and Vice-Chair of Breast Cancer Research Centre-WA, which was established in 2009 as a not-for-profit breast cancer research and education organisation.
The well-received event was also attended by Deputy Premier and Minister for Health, Roger Cook; Acting Director-General, Dr James Williamson and Medical Director of BreastScreen WA, Dr Liz Wylie. For more information about BreastScreen WA please visit the website.
