After some seven months as the Acting Vice-Chancellor, it will give me great pleasure to welcome our next Vice-Chancellor, Professor Stephen Chapman, to Edith Cowan University when he begins his term next week.
I am sure that you will all join me in welcoming him warmly when you have the chance to meet him over the coming weeks.
Professor Chapman will serve as our fifth Vice-Chancellor and joins ECU after serving as the Principal of Herriot-Watt University in Edinburgh.
He brings to ECU significant experience gained during a distinguished international academic career and senior leadership roles at the University of Edinburgh and Heriott-Watt.
There are many of us who have had a chance to meet and work with Stephen since the announcement of his appointment. I am in no doubt that he will hit the ground running and that he will lead an exciting agenda over the coming years that will enable ECU to grow further.
It has been a privilege to lead the University since September and I thank the ECU community for its support during this period and for maintaining your focus on our positive ECU culture that strives to be engaged and accessible.
Your efforts have ensured that ECU is still in a strong position to further build our reputation and capabilities under Professor Chapman’s leadership.
