Special Easter message from our Vice-Chancellor

Since our last E-News, the world as we know it has shifted yet again. The relentless pace of COVID-19 continues, forcing our state borders to close and stricter public health measures for us all.

This Easter, I will be distanced from my family in the UK and I know many of you will also be missing the warmth and affection of loved ones.

However, during this challenging and unprecedented time, it is especially important that we remember to express our gratitude and to count our blessings.

I would like to take this time to acknowledge and thank all the incredible individuals on the front line who, this holiday weekend, will not just be going to work but taking on extraordinary responsibilities.

We should all be proud that so many have graduated from this university and are now providing services that are directly and indirectly saving lives.Through their actions these incredible individuals, our alumni, are demonstrating their importance to our community every day. Never before has the value of our nurses and midwives, healthcare professionals and teachers been more apparent.

In this update I would encourage you to join as an alumni community to connect with us. Please send messages of support, send photos and images of the things that make YOU grateful each day. Our wonderful alumni team is waiting to hear from you at alumni@ecu.edu.au. We will share your messages of hope and positivity on our ECU Alumni channels.

To stay connected with you, we are increasing the frequency of our e-News bulletins. We will also continue to share the advice of many of our ECU experts and staff members, with our upcoming Fighting Fear with Facts and Friendship series.

Let’s continue to stand together to support our students, the elderly, our medical personnel and each other.

On that note I wish all of you, our alumni and your families, a very Happy Easter.

Professor Steve Chapman
Vice-Chancellor and President
