“Since leaving ECU I have built my own Health and Wellness clinic in Kenya from scratch”

"My journey began when I attended an ‘Aussie’ university fair in Kenya and got chatting to the ECU rep who went out of her way to assist me. Within 24 hours I found myself admitted to the exercise science course - I was most impressed!

During my first year at ECU my Mum was diagnosed with multiple myeloma – a virtually unheard of cancer in Kenya – which led me into my first steps of research as a masters student looking at balance, strength and functional ability in older adults, and finally to my PhD in exercise and breast cancer.

Since leaving ECU I have built my own Health and Wellness clinic in Kenya from scratch. From clearing the earth on which to put the small but functional clinic, to running a very successful practice which has recently gained international approval as a service provider for some large international medical insurance providers.

Looking forward, I aim to continue my research here in Kenya where I hope to continue to collaborate with ECU and other universities in the research fields around the role of exercise in cancer, diabetes and other chronic diseases, as well as researching better ways to rehab orthopaedic conditions."
