The Good Practice Framework for Research Training has been developed to respond to the Australian Government’s agenda on research training as well as to provide processes and procedures to help promote the quality of research training in Australian. The Framework assists institutions to identify key areas of good practice or gaps when reviewing and evaluating their research training processes and practices.
The Good Practice Framework for Research Training has been developed by Edith Cowan University in collaboration with the Council of Deans and Directors of Graduate Studies with funding from the Office for Learning and Teaching.

The Good Practice Framework for Research Training comprises nine dimensions and associated components reflecting good practice in research training.
The dimensions are the critical high-level themes required by institutions to deliver quality research training. The components are the sub-themes of each dimension that look at the policy, processes and practices that promote research training excellence. The framework also identifies external reference points and good practice guidelines and resources to support it.

The Good Practice Framework for Research Training helps Australian institutions align their research training processes and procedures with national good practice guidelines, and identify both their areas of strength and opportunities for improvement.
The Framework is a quality assurance tool that enables universities to review how their practices align to good practice guidelines which can be accomplished using a gap analysis template.
