As a service to ECU and as an integral part of the University governance framework, Risk and Assurance Services delivers a value adding independent assurance function in respect of control, compliance, risk management and business continuity with a focus on education and training.

We do this by increasing the awareness throughout the University of risk management, control and compliance by the conduct of consultative reviews and the provision of client-focussed advice supported by the use of an agreed and balanced reporting and follow-up process.

To guide us in this mission, we have adopted the following maxim: “Advising – Protecting – Assuring”. This maxim directly supports ECU’s values of: integrity, respect, rational inquiry and personal excellence.

Activities and processes

  • Delivery of an independent internal audit service through conducting audits, reports and follow-up of audits, the issue of audit certifications and the provision of advice in respect of control and fraud awareness.
  • Working in partnership with schools and centres to develop, maintain and enhance the ECU integrated risk management and compliance frameworks using reports, a risk register for higher risk items and the provision of advice in respect of risk management and compliance.
  • Maintenance and testing of the University Critical Incident Response Policy and business continuity plans and procedures.
