School of Education community events

ECU's School of Education is actively involved in co-ordinating community events aimed at bringing awareness to school children in areas such as science education, environmental education and maths education. All community programs are embedded within the course curriculum to provide pre-service teachers with an applied hands-on experience throughout their course of study.

The School of Education works in close collaboration with local schools to run a number of community events including Science for Kids Day, which invites approximately 200 primary school children from across the metropolitan area to come on campus for the day to experience hands-on science activities with experienced science teachers and ECU pre-service teachers. The project is a partnership project with ECU, Science Teachers' Association of Western Australia and SCITECH. Since 2005, over 960 primary children have attended and pre-service teachers from the School of Education have participated on a voluntary basis. Graduate teachers from ECU have presented activities. MAD Maths Day also invites children to be shown how maths can be fun.
