The purpose of this project is to develop and implement a program for School of Nursing, Midwifery and Postgraduate Medicine staff to engage in clinical practice. This sharpens their skills, enhances credibility and builds stronger alliances with industry. The program was initiated in 2005 to ensure academics maintain contemporary clinical knowledge and to foster links with Joondalup Health Campus. It was the first program of its kind in Australia.
The partners share a joint appointment - the Faculty Practice Co-coordinator - and Joondalup Health Campus provides the School's academic staff with up-to-date, best-practice clinical experience delivered in a supportive environment. ECU's students benefit as they learn from academics who have a clear understanding of contemporary practice.
The mutual benefits include:
The future scope of this role includes the addition of hospitals and health services to offer extra clinical residencies to faculty.
Professor Cobie Rudd, Caron Shutleworth, Tania Beament, Professor Di Twigg, Toni Wain.
Shane Combs (Director of Nursing at Joondalup Health Campus), Tania Beaumont (Faculty Practice Co-ordinator Joondalup Health Campus/ECU).
