Zhejiang Normal University (ZJNU) and ECU agreed in 2002 to develop a joint Master of Education Leadership program. Now in its 7th year, the program is taught across several campuses of ZJNU in Zhejiang Province in China.
With shared delivery, 50 per cent of the course is delivered by ZJNU academics and 50 per cent by ECU, School of Education academics. The ECU component is delivered in bilingual mode to better meet the needs and build capacity of educational leaders from schools, education systems, training providers and higher education academics and administrators.
The program is ECU's only academic program that has the prestigious approval of the Ministry of Education, China and has graduated over 450 education leaders who now work across Zhejiang Province and China more widely. The program has been instrumental in further informing and internationalising the work of ECU academics and the Master of Education Leadership offered in Perth.
It has also built capacity in the education, policy and higher education sectors of government departments and offices. It has also helped inform change in other Chinese universities as graduates have demonstrated advanced leadership, have built their careers as managers and leaders, and have been instrumental in influencing the practices of principals and school leaders.
