Overview

The Interprofessional Ambulatory Care (IpAC) Program is a Commonwealth Government funded initiative to provide health students with an interprofessional learning experience.

The IpAC Program provides an interprofessional learning environment and community clinic on the ECU Joondalup campus (the IpAC Unit) that develops communication and collaboration among health students and optimises chronic disease self-management for clients.

The IpAC Program has developed a range of interprofessional learning through simulation resources for use within the IpAC Program, ECU, the higher education sector, and across the wider community interested in interprofessional learning and practice in the health workforce.  These resources use a root cause analyses approach to identifying what the real problems are and how they might be resolved positively.  The roles that suboptimal communication and leadership, and organisational system failures, play in near misses and adverse events, are germane to the scenarios.

This body of work has been completed under the leadership of Professor Cobie Rudd, Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Health Advancement) and Chair in Mental Health at Edith Cowan University and the National Teaching Fellow 2011-2012, Australian Government Office for Learning and Teaching for "Enhancing uptake of learning through simulation in health".
