Human Resource Management Major
Provides students with necessary skills to recruit, manage, train and develop a team. For students interested in human behaviour, human resource management gives them the opportunity to explore their interests and apply this in a corporate setting.
Employability skills have been built into this major, to ensure students graduate with critical thinking, teamwork, communication and problem-solving skills sought by graduate employers.

Employment opportunities for graduates exist in industrial relations, training, recruitment and change management, safety and risk management, and performance management. Human resource management careers exist in all industries and sectors. With the recent steady growth in the economy, human resource/personnel specialists will be sought across most industries as it is increasingly important for organisations to develop well-trained and motivated staff to reach its desired business outcomes.

Being a mature age student, I assumed that I wouldn't make many friends as that was just for the school leavers, but I have made friends for life with people of all ages and nationalities. These friendships made for the most positive experience. The lecturers and tutors were consistently supportive and it was clear they really wanted their students to succeed.
I loved how ECU offered practical, work-ready learning methods, combined with the latest theory. I didn't realise how interactive the course would be, there were so many real life scenarios which made me feel much more comfortable about going out into the workforce.
My greatest achievement was graduating with the School of Business and Law medal for 2018. It was an incredible honour that I got to share with my family, ECU friends and all my lecturers and tutors who encouraged me to aim as high as I could.

Whilst studying at ECU, I was an ambassador for the Australian Human Resource Institute (AHRI). Being an ambassador helped me to successfully apply for the AHRI internship program, which secured me an internship in the HR department at CGG – one of the two work placements I have been able to complete whilst studying at ECU. Both were invaluable experiences and have assisted in identifying the areas of Human Resources that I would like to focus on. After my three weeks interning at CGG, I was offered a contract with the company, where I worked whilst I completed my studies. This has provided a great opportunity to apply the theory I have learnt throughout my degree, and I have no doubt that this will assist my employability now that I have completed my degree.

One of the main reasons why I decided to study in ECU is because I wanted a new and modern university atmosphere. I also heard the teaching quality is good here and that's important for my development and learning in university. I also chose to study psychology at ECU because this uni focuses on research as well as theory and I have an interest in becoming a researcher in the future.
I would like say to someone who is thinking about studying at ECU is grab this opportunity you will not regret it. Perth is beautiful, there's so much to do and so much to see and ECU has amazing opportunities, helpful lecturers, and beautiful campuses. If you ever feel like you're homesick, join a club or association it will make you feel like you have a sense of belonging. The longer I've been here, the more I’m falling in love with Perth.
