About this PhD Unit Set

Social Science Research at ECU concentrates around vulnerability, people and community wellbeing, equity, gender, rights, and improving the quality of social and community services, through research centred upon policy evaluation.

Social Science consists of several programs, being Social Science, Social Work and Youth Work. Specific postgraduate research topics are developed in conjunction with the postgraduate coordinator or potential supervisor, however applications are particularly encouraged from those with an interest in: Vulnerability and social inclusion Gender equity Youth and youth work issues Family violence Social work issues Community development and sustainability Disability Scholarship of teaching and learning Social program evaluation Researchers in the school are currently involved in projects investigating: children’s rights, family violence, young people and homelessness, peer mentoring, eco social work, disability issues, child protection practices, reflective practices in social work, suicide, and reconceptualising childhood.

Important notes

  • Candidates enrolled in the Doctor of Philosophy Integrated (J42) may be required to attend classes on more than one campus to complete the research training component of the course.

  • Candidates are expected to meet regularly with their supervisors as part of the supervised independent research component of the course.
