About this Specialisation

The Behaviour and Wellbeing specialisation within the Graduate Certificate of Education has been developed in conjunction with practising teachers and professionals working with at risk youth.

The specialisation offers an opportunity for teachers and those engaged in education, to further develop skills, knowledge and understanding of behaviour, trauma, resilience and positive psychology. The specialisation is practical and focuses on developing skills in working with young people, especially those from trauma backgrounds, with a view to supporting them on pathways to responsibility. The unitset offers in-service teachers and those working with youth an opportunity to critically assess current trends in behavior management, challenge personal and system wide assumptions about student behaviour, as well as enhance skills in dealing with challenging behaviours and trauma whilst building resilience and wellbeing, within a diverse range of educative contexts.

Learning Outcomes

  1. Analyse key understanding of behaviour, trauma, resilience and positive psychology to generate informed practice.
  2. Critically analyse educational and school approaches to managing behaviour and trauma and building resilience and wellbeing, within a diverse range of educative contexts.
  3. Manage own learning within a collaborative learning environment.
  4. Transmit knowledge and understanding of children and young people in regard to behaviour, trauma, resilience and positive psychology to audiences engaged in education.

Graduates will be suitable for careers in a variety of positions ranging from work as teachers in school classrooms, school coordinators and principals, curriculum and policy advisers in departments of education and as advisers to government and other policy makers.
