About this Specialisation

This specialisation provides an opportunity for students to develop their knowledge, understandings and skills to teach English in the primary years.

This specialisation highlights the centrality of English to all learning areas and the importance of English in the Australian Curriculum. The specialisation units build on understandings developed in core units and deepen students' knowledge about teaching reading, writing and children's literature in classroom contexts. Where possible, these units provide opportunities for students to develop their capacity as teachers of literacy by working with children in school contexts. Particular focus is given to developing additional depth of understanding of expert content knowledge, pedagogical content knowledge and highly effective classroom teaching in English.
