Students and staff were treated to a night of Indian immersion last Friday evening at ECU’s CBD Learning Hub. Rachelle Rechichi shared her experience of ECU’s Psychology Tour to India (2019) through a photo presentation, a documentary and a “slow film”.

On entering, guests were “blessed” with tinted oil, flower petals and the ringing of a bell. They were then invited to build fresh flower mandalas whilst others arrived. The idea of “slow film” is to provide viewers with a contemplative experience, free of emotion and narrative. Rachelle’s slow film soundscape was composed to enhance the experience, to reflect the peace and vastness of India alongside its chaos. One student commented that she felt like she “was in a trance” as she watched the slow film.

The event was catered for by Spice Journey and guests enjoyed a variety of wonderfully fragrant Indian curries as well as samosas and the extra-sweet gulab jamun.

It was a great treat to feel a world away in down-town Bunbury!
