Professor Cobie Rudd, ECU Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Strategic Partnerships) and Vice-President and Professor Jenny McKinley, Queens University Belfast.
On the 31st October 2019, ECU hosted Professor Jenny McKinley from Queens University Belfast to discuss her experiences with Athena SWAN accreditation in the UK. Professor McKinley met with a broad range of ECU staff, across STEMM schools and the leadership team.
Queen's University Belfast has been a member of the UK Athena SWAN Charter since its formation in 2005. The University holds one of only 9 Silver UK Athena SWAN Institutional Awards, along with 15 Departmental Awards (2 Gold, 7 Silver, 6 Bronze). Professor McKinley has been actively involved in the University’s Athena SWAN Accreditation for several years as a school Athena SWAN Champion and a member of Athena SWAN award assessment panels.
Professor McKinley shared her insights with ECU staff members including: her university’s successful Athena SWAN Silver Institutional Accreditation Award, her role in helping attain a school Athena SWAN Silver Award, and her experience as an Athena SWAN champion for her university.
Discussions with Professor McKinley’s allows ECU to enhance our understanding and develop strategies to progress Athena SWAN departmental accreditation for ECU schools.
Moving forward, ECU will look to collaborate with Queens University Belfast for international mentorship and guidance during ECU’s application for SAGE Athena SWAN departmental accreditation.
