Each year, we congratulate our high achieving students with competitions, prizes and awards in order to help them reach their potential through extracurricular pursuits.
The Science and Engineering Challenge is a competition for Year 9 students aiming to present science and engineering in an inspirational manner, excite the imagination of prospective students and provoke their interest through a variety of well-designed tasks.
Activities range from problem solving scenarios to designing and building projects. The program has received enormous encouragement from teachers with many indicating that the Challenge has been vital in engaging and inspiring students towards continuing their studies in science.
The Challenge is supported by the School of Engineering and takes place in Kalgoorlie, Geraldton, Australind, Mt Barker, Rockingham and Perth. The Challenge runs during October and November each year with the winning state team being invited to take part in the National Science and Engineering Challenge. In 2010, over 2,600 students and 170 teachers participated from around the state.
The Faculty Medal is awarded to a graduating student each year for the highest achievement in an undergraduate course, not including honours, within the Faculty of Health, Engineering and Science.
The Faculty Research Medal is the faculty’s most prestigious research prize, awarded to the highest achieving student graduating from a research higher degree within the Faculty of Health, Engineering and Science. Students are judged on the quality of the research thesis submitted for the award.
The Dean’s List recognises the top 1% of undergraduate and postgraduate coursework students each year, based on their overall course average. The List includes students from across all disciplines in the faculty categorised according to schools.
Each year the Faculty of Health, Engineering and Science recognises the outstanding achievements of our students through student prizes. Students, their family, and prize sponsors are invited to a prize giving ceremony held each February to receive their prize.
