Why wait until next year to start your studies?

ECU nursing graduate Vinita Pillai found flexibility and support key to her success.

If you’ve taken time off after high school, have been travelling or working or are thinking of going back to study later in life, mid-year entry could be the ideal time to start your degree.

Edith Cowan University (ECU) provides flexible options for students who need to balance their degree with their already busy life, including part-time and online study.

ECU nursing graduate Vinita Pillai chose the full-time, on campus option to achieve her dream of becoming a Registered Nurse.

“ECU was my first choice for studying nursing because of the flexibility the university provides – I wanted to study somewhere that I could manage my family, work and home commitments, alongside my study commitments,” Ms Pillai said.

“Also, if you need flexibility for choosing your timetable, it’s all online and you can choose the days and classes that suit.

“I have a small family and I also worked part-time, so I wanted something I could adapt into everything and not miss out on my personal life.”

For Ms Pillai, flexibility was the key to her success.

She was able to cover her four units within two days each week, allowing her to work and take care of her young son on the other days.

But it’s not just the flexible class timetables that stood out to Ms Pillai, with supportive teaching staff also helping her schedule clinical placements around her commitments.

“My experience at ECU was remarkable, the staff always strive to provide the best education and support to students,” she said.

“There is a really friendly vibe among all of the students, and the cultural diversity gives you an opportunity to understand people from a wide range of nationalities.”

Job ready

The courses at ECU combine the latest theory and practical experience and are developed in close consultation with industry. This approach helps students reach their full-potential, ready to enter the workforce with the skills employers are seeking.

Not a school leaver?

ECU has a range of entry pathways including UniPrep, experience-based entry and scholarships to ensure education is accessible to anyone who wants to pursue their ambition.
