Helping them to select the right course

The biggest question we get asked by parents of prospective students is:

"How can I help my son/daughter with their Course Selection?"

We find the best recipe for success to finding a course and career that your son/daughter will enjoy and find success in, is to encourage them to consider the following questions:

  • What are their strengths?
  • What do they enjoy?
  • What are their interests outside of school?
  • What is their personality type (i.e. social, realistic, investigative, artistic, enterprising or conventional)?

The Undergraduate Course Guide and the Course Planner are good tools to assist in identifying the types of courses and careers which might suit their interests, abilities and strengths.

Get to know your discipline

If your son/daughter already have an idea of what they want to study or what careers they want to target, attend the Information Evening for that discipline.

Most ECU discipline areas run an information evening each semester, or each year, where staff who teach in that discipline will discuss their course structures, career outcomes and what the course involves.

For upcoming events and more information, see our Events page.

Get to know your options

We run prospective student information evenings throughout the year. These evenings will give you and your son/daughter all the information they need to make an informed choice about studying, admission, entry pathway options, subject selection and much more.

For more information and to register for upcoming events, see our Events page.
