ECU Students Jermiah Oliveri and Jake Hagen have been awarded the prestigious Westpac Young Technologists Scholarships for 2017.

Valued at $5,000 per annum, The Young Technologist Scholarship is awarded to 2 undergraduate students with a passion to bring about change through cutting-edge technology and innovation.
Susan Bannigan, CEO of the Westpac Bicentennial Foundation, said the Scholarship is designed to attract young people from all walks of life, and encourages more high school leavers to consider a future in this field.

“Technology is one of three key priorities for the Foundation. It is at the forefront of our future and permeates every aspect of our lives. The Westpac Young Technologists Scholarship aims to not only increase diversity in the industry but increase the number of people choosing a career in this field,” said Susan.

For Jeremiah Oliveri, receiving the Westpac Young Technologist Scholarship has meant that he has been able to pursue his interest in maintaining and enhancing the digital security of local business and communities within Australia.
“It hasn’t been the easiest road to adapt to university life after high school, but becoming apart of the Westpac 100 Alumni has proved invaluable in providing support and mentoring in this transition phase. I’ve particularly enjoyed the array of different topics that studying Cyber Security as a Bachelor of Science allows. Thank you to Jimmy Taylor and the Westpac Bicentennial Foundation for providing me, along with many other young Australians, the opportunity to excel and to shape the digital future of Australia” said Jeremiah.

In addition to financial assistance, all  recipients of Westpac Technologist Scholarships will also gain lifelong membership to the Westpac 100 Scholars Network, joining an incredible group of inspiring leaders.

“Money can help launch a vision but it takes a network of inspired and inspiring people to sustain it. That’s why every Westpac Young Technologists Scholarship recipient will be part of Westpac 100 Scholars Network.” Susan added.
A range of scholarships are offered at ECU to help both current and future students complete their studies.  Find out more about ECU’s scholarships.
