The First Fleet piano has returned to the UK for critical restoration work.
One of Australia’s most significant musical instruments was flown to London via Emirates. A 24-hour trip compared to its 8-month journey to Australia aboard the First Fleet in 1788.
The piano, that forms part of the ECU Founding Pianos collection, was welcomed at a gala event at Australia House in London.
The Vice-Chancellor hosted the event with WA Agent General Mike Deeks and the Australian High Commission.
The piano’s arrival in the UK made bulletins on both BBC Radio 4 Today programme (7 million listeners) and the Radio 2 Breakfast (9 million) programme.
ABC TV’s London Bureau and BBC TV are also covering the journey of the piano as it makes its way to Bath for restoration.
