This area of focus involves the betterment of our lives in WA, responding to emerging needs as our environment continues to change and allowing people to live more securely and sustainably.
A key focus for the Institute is a range of research initiatives looking at the role of exercise in the prevention and management of chronic diseases. Exercise medicine is a comparatively new field and there is a lot more to learn if we are to make a real difference in people’s lives.
Lead by Professor Mel Ziman, ECU’s Melanoma Research group was established in 2007 with the primary focus of the group is to develop a simple blood test to detect circulating metastatic melanoma cells.
Our Engineering research program has a practical and tangible impact on all Western Australians. Already we are creating exciting applications in bush fire detection, car theft prevention and air pollution monitoring. And this is just the start.
