Message from our Vice-Chancellor

Edith Cowan University is clear in its purpose: to transform lives and enrich society through education and research.

I know first hand that education can transform lives and have the evidence to prove it. I am that evidence.

I’m a classic ‘first in family’ to go to university. My roots are working class and, to be frank, my parents had very little money.

One Christmas, after much pleading on my behalf, my parents bought me a chemistry set. This was a game-changer for me. That chemistry set ignited my desire for education. I knew from that day I had to get an education and pursue my scientific passion.

I remain forever grateful for a gift that would create such profound change for me. Education changed my whole life. It changed the way I think, and it changed my ambitions. It changed everything.

Donors transform lives

Donors are at the core of our commitment to transform lives. It is the generosity of donors, supporters and alumni that build the bridge between a student’s dream and their future.

For our students, it can make the difference between someone staying at university or giving up.

Any contribution, no matter how big or small, is a valuable and vital gift. Through your generosity, you are more than just a friend, alumni, foundation, or business. You become part of our collective force, driving positive change, and contributing to the unique aspects that make ECU remarkable.

Professor Steve Chapman CBE
Vice-Chancellor
