LINK students performing in Amsterdam
Eleven WAAPA dance students recently returned from this year’s five-week LINK International tour to Europe.
The group, which was led by ECU lecturer Michael Whaites, participated in workshops in Montpelier, Brussels and Amsterdam , performing for audiences along the way.
Mr Whaites said the tour was a fantastic success.
“The performances the company gave at Mouvment sur la Ville in Montpellier and in the Julidans Festival in Amsterdam were well received. ECU and WAAPA logos were in every program for Julidans, giving the University and Academy great exposure.”
The trip offered students the chance to showcase their talents and learn about various cultures at the same time.
“Apart from travelling and meeting new people, one of the best aspects of the tour were the workshops we took,” ECU student Joshua Pether said.
“I learnt invaluable information that has helped me become a better dancer and to also appreciate dance more from a different perspective.”
Students also attended dance festivals and performances, which ECU student Matthew Tupper believed was a great learning opportunity.
“We were fortunate enough to see a large variety of performances including William Forsythe's company. This, combined with the picturesque south of France, made for a vibrant experience.”
The tour was such a success, students have already been invited back to perform next year.
“It was a fantastic learning experience for the students and a highlight of the year,” Mr Whaites said.
