Edith Cowan University’s (ECU) melanoma research group is hosting an exclusive Sex and the City 2 fundraising event on Saturday, 5 June 2010 at Grand Cinemas, Joondalup.
The aim of the event is to raise essential funds for research into the development of a blood test to detect the spread of melanoma in its early stages.
Heading up the research group is Associate Professor, Melanie Ziman, who says research to date has shown that Australia has the highest incidence of Melanoma in the world.
“It is the most common cancer in young people aged 15-39 and causes 80 per cent of skin cancer related deaths.
“The test developed at ECU has the potential to benefit melanoma sufferers worldwide as it can detect cancerous melanoma cells at early stages of the disease, before they spread to other organs.”
Tickets are $30 and include entry to the movie, canapés and drinks as well as prizes for the Most Fabulous Shoes and the Most Fabulously Dressed. There will also be raffle tickets for sale with all proceeds going to ECU’s melanoma research.
Tickets can be purchased from www.ecu.edu.au/sexandthecity2.
