Fogarty Learning Centre
The Fogarty Learning Centre (FLC) is an innovative education initiative with a strong collaborative and community focus. FLC researchers excel in the teaching of literacy to both pre-service and postgraduate teachers through the provision of clinical teaching experiences in literacy and numeracy.
The Centre also specialises in researching the pedagogy linked to those curriculum areas and fosters both on-site and school-site literacy and numeracy coaching for children. The Centre conducts locally and nationally recognised teaching and research into:
- Science education
- Learning difficulties
- Behaviour management
- Early childhood studies and school effectiveness
- Children with learning difficulties
- Curriculum development.
A major focus is on ensuring that research outcomes are implemented with children and teachers in schools and with undergraduate and postgraduate teacher education students to improve outcomes for children in Australian schools.
Collaborative research is a strength of the Fogarty Learning Centre and strong links exist with the Department of Education Employment and Workplace Relations, the Chamber of Minerals and Energy, the Association of Independent Schools, Catholic Education Office, Centre for Inclusive Schooling, State Library of Western Australia, Department of Community Health, Rio Tinto, Joondalup City, Water Corporation of WA, Australian Academy of Science, and the Swan Noongar Sports Education Program.
The FLC works in collaboration with these and other industry partners to implement initiatives and provide action learning opportunities.
The Centre is funded by the Fogarty Foundation and ECU.
