Defence Science and Technology Group- Women in STEM Scholarships

The Commonwealth of Australia as represented by the Defence Science and Technology Group of the Department of Defence will be offering a Scholarship to a female student who has completed a minimum of 1 year in an eligible STEM related course at ECU. The Scholarship will offer a payment of $5000 per semester for up to 4 years. The scholarship aims to encourage high-performing female students to continue studying in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) fields to improve the representation of Women scientists and engineers.** Recipients of the Scholarship will be required to obtain and maintain an Australian Government security clearance at the level of Baseline. There is no cost to the recipient and this is facilitated by the Department of Defence.

Eligibility guidelines

To be eligible for this scholarship you must:

  • be a female Australian citizen;
  • be enrolled in one of the eligible courses listed below;
  • have and maintain an academic progression status of GOODSTANDING;
  • be studying a minimum of 45 credit points;
  • have completed a minimum of 120 credit points of your current course;
  • have an minimum WAM of 60%;
  • not be in receipt of another scholarship.

How to apply

Application is made via the ECU Online Scholarship Application Portal. Access to the portal is available between application opening and closing dates.

Applicants will be required to provide a personal statement of no more than 700 words addressing the following;

  • Describe your interest in a career in Defence Science and/or Engineering;
  • Provide examples of achievements in extra-curricular activities and/or community leadership and explain how the skills and experience gained may be applicable to this scholarship.

Applicants will also be required to provide a Letter of Support from an ECU Academic staff member .

Selection Process

Eligible applications will be assessed by a Selection Committee.

Selection will based on:

  • Content of Personal Statement;
  • References provided;
  • WAM.
