Gerald Frank Brown Scholarship

The Gerald Frank Brown scholarship has been established by the Government of Western Australia in cooperation with the universities of WA to financially assist high-achieving European students to study in Western Australia through a formal exchange program (inbound). The scholarship funds also provide for Western Australian university students to participate in a student exchange program with universities in the European Economic Community (outbound). The scholarship offers a one time payment of $2,000. For European (inbound) recipients this will be after arriving in Western Australia. For Western Australian (outbound) recipients it will be prior to leaving for Europe.

Eligibility guidelines - European Students (inbound)

In order to be eligible to apply, you must:

  • be a citizen or permanent resident of a country in the European Union;
  • be currently enrolled in a full-time course at a tertiary institution in the European Union (EU) which has a formal exchange program with Edith Cowan University;
  • have completed at least the first year of a full time course of study at your home institution;
  • be committed to studying full-time and on-campus; and
  • have been accepted into the Student Exchange Programme or Study Abroad Programme at Edith Cowan University.

Eligibility guidelines - Western Australian Students (outbound)

In order to be eligible to apply, you must:

  • be an Australian citizen, or an Australian permanent resident;
  • be currently enrolled in a full time course at a tertiary institution in Western Australia;
  • have completed at least the first year of a full time course of study at your home institution and hold an overall weighted average of 50%+;
  • have been accepted into the Student Exchange Programme or Study Abroad Program through Edith Cowan University.

Selection criteria

Scholarships will be awarded at the discretion of Edith Cowan University and there will be no right of appeal. The decision made by Edith Cowan University will be final and no correspondence will be entered into.

Terms and conditions

Applicants will need to be enrolled in units of study for the coming semester (the scholarship cannot be deferred).

Successful applicants of the Gerald Frank Brown Scholarship must complete the full term of the Scholarship. In the event the successful applicant does not complete the full term of the Scholarship (except in the case of extenuating circumstances), Edith Cowan University may request the recipient to repay either the whole or a part of the Scholarship as it sees fit.

Edith Cowan University may terminate a Scholarship at any time for unsatisfactory conduct, for breach of any condition of the Scholarship, or failure to make satisfactory progress.

Application is made via the ECU Online Scholarship Application Portal. Access to the Portal is available between application opening and closing dates.
