MRIWA 2020/2021 Postgraduate Scholarships

The Minerals Research Institute of Western Australia (MRIWA) offers two scholarships annually to support graduate research training in any discipline relevant to the Minerals Industry in Western Australia: The Odwyn Jones Scholarship, The MRIWA Women’s Scholarship (open to women applicants only). These scholarships are intended to encourage and enable students of exceptional research promise to undertake higher degrees by research at universities in Western Australia.

At a glance

MRIWA scholarships are awarded to PhD students undertaking research relevant to the minerals industry of Western Australia.

Applications can be considered from candidates intending study in any field consistent with MRIWA’s current Research Priority Plan.

MRIWA Postgraduate Scholarships are available to both domestic and international applicants, and are tenable at any university in the state.

The MRIWA Scholarships provide payment of an annual stipend of up to $35,000 and an allowance of $5,000 to support research and travel costs for up to three years, with the possibility for a six-month extension.

Eligibility guidelines

To be eligible for this scholarship you must:

  • Be undertaking research relevant to the minerals industry of Western Australia
  • Meet the criteria for admission to the PhD program at an eligible university, and have applied for entry in that program
  • Have submitted a detailed expression of interest to MRIWA as detailed below
