Rural and Regional Enterprise Scholarships (RRES)

The Rural and Regional Enterprise Scholarships (RRES) program was announced in 2016 to help Australians in regional and remote areas to access higher education. It supports people studying from Certificate IV through to PhD level.

At a glance

The Rural and Regional Enterprise Scholarships program  is intended to improve access to and completion of tertiary education courses for students commencing a new course of study from a regional or remote area in Australia.

Eligible students may receive up to $18,000 each (e.g. for a full-time, four-year qualification). Shorter, part-time qualifications are paid on a pro-rata basis. An extra $500 is also available to support an internship.

Eligibility guidelines

To be considered for a Rural and Regional Enterprise Scholarship, you must meet all the eligibility criteria below:

  • You must be an Australian citizen, Australian permanent resident, holder of a permanent humanitarian visa, or a New Zealand citizen living in Australia.
  • Have commenced the first year of your Eligible Course of Study in 2022.
  • Provide evidence to demonstrate your financial need.
  • Be studying a Certificate IV or above.
  • Be studying on campus, online or via distant education
  • Your permanent home address must be in a regional or remote area as defined by the Australian Statistical Geography Standard (ASGS).
  • Applicants must not have relocated to a major city more than 3 months prior to commencing their chosen course of study.

Selection criteria

Capability

Applicants must provide a written response describing the following:

  1. A past educational achievement, or achievements, which indicate the Applicant’s ability to
    undertake their Eligible Course of Study; and/or
  2. A past work achievement, or achievements, which indicate the Applicant’s ability to undertake
    their Eligible Course of Study.

How to apply

An application can by submitted online via https://www.qtac.edu.au/rres-program/

Applicants must submit the following documentation with their completed application form:

  • Evidence of Australian Citizenship, permanent residency, permanent humanitarian via or being a New Zealand citizen living in Australia.
  • Proof of residence in a regional or remote area in Australia (see Section 5.1 of the Program Outline)
  • If you have relocated to a major city to study, evidence of relocation from your permanent regional home address must be provided.
  • Evidence of financial need (see Section 5.3 of the Program Outline)
  • Evidence to support any other considerations that may be relevant as per Section 7 of the Program Outline
