Community Workshop run by Sarah Mills
Each year ECU South West host the ECU and Art Partners 9x5" Art Auction on Open Day in August. In the lead up to the auction, workshops are held on campus to introduce new techniques to participants and encourage collaboration between students and Art Partners mentors and mentees.
The finished artworks are made by students, staff and renowned local artists and are auctioned off to the community to support the Art Partners mentorship program and the Graduate Art exhibition. Art Partners match proteges (people with disability) with mentors and together they participate in mainstream art classes and activities.
The 9 by 5 legacy began in 1889 when several artists of the Heidelberg School held a 9 by 5 Impressionist Exhibition in the Melbourne Town Hall. Most of the 183 works included in the exhibition were painted on 9 by 5 inch (23x13cms) cigar-box panels scrounged from the local tobacconists.
This auction is a guaranteed day of fun for anyone creative and non-creative with all of the bidding wars drama, action and more!
Money raised will be used for resources to support Art Partners to develop their program and to support the Graduate Exhibition of the visual art students at Bunbury Regional Art Galleries in November.
