Dr Hilary Tierney from Maynooth University, Ireland will deliver a presentation on The long and winding road - youth work and professionalisation in Ireland
Dr Hilary Tierney has been involved with youth work and youth work education in Ireland over an extended period of time. Her research and teaching interests at Maynooth University have contributed to many aspects of professionalisation including professional supervision, professional ethics, reflective practice, youth worker initial education and on-going professional development. As part of her commitment to youth work professional development, Dr Tierney has just completed a European Youth Work education project ‘Youthwork and You’.
The presentation will discuss youth work professionalisation in Ireland will include a short demonstration of some of the youth work professional development resources, followed by opportunities for questions and discussions.
This presentation will be of interest to youth workers who want to know more about youth work professionalisation internationally, to anyone with an interest in youth work education in Europe, or to anyone with an interest in youth and community work in the Republic of Ireland.
Dr Tierney lectures in youth and community work at Maynooth University in Ireland. Her interests include professional supervision, informal education, ethics and values in professional practice and the professional formation of gender conscious practitioners. She is particularly interested in the potential of informal social education to develop young people's critical capacities as local and global citizens who are committed to equality, social justice and human rights.
