International linguistics scholar visits C-Global

Professor Nuria Lorenzo-Dus will be visiting the Edith Cowan Centre for Global Issues later this month to strengthen existing ties between ECU and Swansea University.

Nuria is a Professor of Applied Linguistics at Swansea University, where she also serves as the Dean of Postgraduate Research. Her research expertise lies at the intersection of Linguistics and Criminology. She is the author of several books and over fifty articles and book chapters on media discourse.

Nuria currently leads and co-leads a number of research projects at Swansea University including:

  • social media use by right-wing extremist and jihadi groups;
  • construction of trust and community in crypto-drug markets;
  • online groomers’ communicative profiling.

She is also working on a Leverhulme Trust project titled ‘Exploring the language barrier to engagement in youth justice assessment interview practice.’

Professor Lorenzo-Dus will be visiting ECU from 18 to 26 November 2018. During this time she will host a Masterclass, titled “Doing cyber-trust outside or on the fringes of the law: A multidisciplinary approach”,at Joondalup campus and meet with the Graduate Research team to further progress the potential of a joint PhD between the universities.
